Topic: When You Need Counsel
Scripture: Though rulers sit together and slander me, your servant will meditate on your decrees. Your statutes are my delight; they are my counselors. — Psalm 119:23-24 (NIV)
I believe God’s Word gives us the answer to any problem we have. It will counsel us when we need to know what to do or how to handle a specific situation. In addition, the Holy Spirit, who dwells inside of us, is our Counselor (John 14:16–17 AMP). There is nothing wrong with getting professional counseling if you need it and can afford it, but if not, the fact that God’s Word and His Spirit will counsel you should give you comfort.
I think we run to other people too quickly and should give God a chance to counsel us before seeking help from another human being. If we do choose to see a professional counselor, we need His guidance concerning the right person for us.
I was sexually abused during my childhood, and when I began my journey of healing, I could not afford a professional counselor. But God counseled me and brought me to a place of wholeness and victory through His Word, and He will do the same for you if you need it. God’s Word contains healing power. Spending time in His presence also brings healing. Be patient and trust that God’s Word and His Holy Spirit are working in you to give you good counsel.
Prayer of the Day: Father, when I don’t know what to do, thank You that You provide counsel and advice for me in any situation. Let me always seek counsel from You first and trust You to guide me to the next step I am to take.
